Sid Meier Doing Something Correct

Ok, I have a big question here. Why is nearly everything Sid Meier does golden as compared to nearly everything others doing being absolute crap on the PC? If you know nothing about Sid Meier he has created PC games like Civilization, Pirates, and Railroads. To me all but a couple of his games have been a blast to play. What is he doing different than other developers? I cannot put my finger on it can you?
